Mississauga Library will be holding its Author Talks series with a new set of writers in the first quarter of 2023.
The Author Talks series features a wide range of talented writers. The sessions will be held in the fourth Wednesday of every month, between Jan. 25 and March 22.
The public will hear authors read from their books and then have the chance to ask questions, learn about the writing process and learn more about their craft of telling captivating stories.
The January session of Author Talks will feature Jennifer Hillier, an award-winning author of seven psychological thrillers. A Filipino-Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, she spent several years in Seattle before returning home to Canada. Jennifer is the author of “Wonderland,” “Creep,” “Freak,” “The Butcher,” “Jar of Hearts,” and “Little Secrets.” Her new thriller is “Things We Do in the Dark.”
The event will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 7-8 p.m.
The second session with Toronto-based writer, Zalika Reid-Benta, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 7-8 p.m. Her story collection “Frying Plantain” won the Danuta Gleed Literary Award and the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for Literary Fiction.
“Frying Plantain” was longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and was shortlisted for the Toronto Book Award and the Trillium Book Award. She received an MFA. in fiction from Columbia, and her first novel, “River Mumma,” will be published in 2023.
The third session will be held on Wednesday, March 22, from 7-8 p.m., featuring Tibetan-Canadian author Tsering Yangzom Lama.
Born and raised in Nepal, Lama’s debut novel, “We Measure the Earth with Our Bodies,” is a New York Times summer reads pick and a finalist for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
The book was longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and the Toronto Book Award.
All Author Talks sessions are free with registration and eligible to those aged 13 and over. A Mississauga Library card is not required to attend the talks.
