The City of Mississauga is looking for its next youth poet laureate and applications are now open.
In this role, the individual will serve as a literary ambassador for youth in the city with the objective of elevating the status of poetry, literary arts and young writers.
The honorary position recognizes a young poet who writes poetry or spoken word and has written on themes relevant to the city.
This will be the city’s fourth youth poet laureate.
They will serve a 24-month term beginning in April and will receive a $3,000 honorarium paid in 6 instalments throughout the term.
Mississauga’s current youth poet laureate is Qurat Dar, a spoken word artist, organizer and multi-genre writer who has been serving a two-year term since 2021.
Applications are open to current Mississauga residents who are 25 years old or younger as of April 1.
Submissions will be accepted until March 1 at 4:30 p.m. and full guidelines are available online.
