SAWITRI Theatre Group has a new Assistant Artistic Director, Abhimanyu Acharya!
Abhimanyu Acharya is a multilingual fiction writer, playwright, translator, and scholar. His collection of stories in Gujarati titled Padchayao Vacche won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar in 2020. In the same year, he also won the Sanhita Manch playwriting award for his play Bhes. He has been long-listed thrice for TOTO awards for creative writing in English. He was awarded the Sahapedia-UNESCO fellowship in 2019 to work on His plays have been performed in different cities across India and Canada, and his works have appeared in Out of Print, Hakara, Gulmohar Quarterly, Readingroom, and Karvaan India amongst others. His doctoral dissertation, focusing on the aesthetics and politics of theatre in Colonial Western India, has been nominated for the American distinguished dissertation awards in 2023. Apart from working for SAWITRI Theatre, he is currently working on a novel, a play, and an English translation of a memoir that deals with the partition of India.
