Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel about an Elizabethan nobleman who wakes one day as a woman and then traverses centuries without aging, is adapted here by one of the most important contemporary US playwrights. A rich meditation on the fluidity of gender and identity, an exhilarating satirical romp through centuries of European history, and, by way of a long-distance collaboration between two major feminist writers, a captivating piece of theatre.
