The claps were in unison as the crowd put their hands together as KING DAVIID graced the stage with rhythmic beats, inspired by the sounds of his home country, Nigeria. He guided the audience to clap with the beats, as they followed, excitingly.

James Favron hopped on the stage with a contagious smile and an infectious energy, even calling up his son mid-set to give him the bottle of water. Favron’s son, hesitant but smiley, walked unwillingly to be greeted by a hug from his dad.

Moments of togetherness and an evening to celebrate the community and talent of Mississauga were evident at the second rendition of Amphitheatre Unplugged – Open Mic Series presented by Mississauga Arts Council in partnership with Mississauga Celebration Square.

The night featured electric performances by a diverse set of nine artists. Hosted by Cat Bernardi, award-winning recording artist, composer and music educator, mentioned “..local initiatives are an amazing way to connect with the community and a great opportunity to network with other artists.”

Local events like these weekly open mics create a sense of community and a safe space for belonging for the artists and the audience. It allows them to connect in an intimate setting at the otherwise bustling Celebration Square.

The last Amphitheatre Unplugged of the year will take place on Wednesday, August 30 – hosted by Lisa Shen.

Everyone is welcome to come by for this free event at Celebration Square! Enjoy the serene sounds, the exceptional talent and celebrate what artists from the city of Mississauga have got to offer!
