An excited crowd gathered inside the Sampradaya Theatre around 7 PM on a warm and pleasant Saturday evening to experience SAWITRI Theatre and Mississauga Arts Council’s joint venture: the Real to Reel shorts; where ten emerging filmmakers created their own unique short films on ten plays being showcased at this year’s Mississauga Multilingual Fringe Festival.
The theatre was packed with supporters, film/theatre go-ers, production teams, filmmakers,
and more! It was a night of celebration more than anything else. Giving an ode to the hard work and dedication of what it takes to not just create the play but perform, and give it their all.
“It’s interesting, I think, to know the back-story for each person, their journey, how and why they’re presenting what they’re presenting, it was an interesting journey and tonight we see the culmination of it,” says Shruti Shah, SAWITRI Theatre’s Artistic Co-Director.
Each short film helped the audience see the plays in a new light – giving them a further understanding and appreciation of the meaning, theme and message of the theatre productions.
The short films will be screened for free one last time on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM at Sampradaya Theatre – you don’t want to miss this!
