Connecting Mississauga to the arts, and the arts to Mississauga and beyond
Join Martys HUBJoin the Art Gallery of Mississauga on Sunday October 1st from 2-4 pm to celebrate the opening reception of the Clarkson Society of Artists 60th Anniversary Showcase.
This exhibition celebrates the work of the Clarkson Society of Artists—one of Mississauga’s most longstanding art groups. The community-based, non-profit association consists of approximately 40 local artists working across a broad range of mediums, styles, and techniques.
First organized in 1963 as the Clarkson Art Group, the members began by meeting in various homes, and then moved their gatherings to a local church basement, where they continue to hold their weekly workshops and meetings to this day.
Their dedication to artistic growth has resulted in numerous exhibitions, including their annual Spring Show and Sale at Visual Arts Mississauga. Many members have participated in juried shows both nationally and internationally, some are art instructors, and some belong to prominent art associations, receiving prestigious awards for their contributions.
The membership of the Clarkson Society of Artists has changed and evolved over the years, but their core motivation to support artistic development within a social, closely-knit group has remained constant. This exhibition showcases the work of all the society’s current members, who have selected some of their favourite artworks to share with our audiences.
