Job Summary

Under the direction of the Collections Supervisor and Outreach & Exhibitions Coordinator, the Collections & Exhibition Assistant will assist with updating the Museums’ Past Perfect artifact database including data entry, research, scanning, inventory and condition reports. They will also assist with researching, developing, fabricating and installing community outreach and in-house exhibitions.

This position will be 28 hours per week divided into two days of collections related tasks and two days exhibition related tasks with some crossover.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Successful candidate will:

  • Curate, design and install community outreach exhibitions and assist with the development of in-house exhibitions.
  • Research and write draft exhibit text, develop related web/social content, source exhibition images and support with graphic design projects following current accepted practices
  • Liaise with graphic designers and suppliers as needed
  • Assist with maintenance of Past Perfect artifact database
  • Assist with annual artifact inventory
  • Locate, pack and create condition reports for artifacts used in exhibitions
  • Assist with research requests related to the collections and exhibitions
  • Assist with maintenance of historic settings and move artifacts as needed
  • Serve as a team member on various museums projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized  museums studies program
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in collections and in exhibition design and development
  • Solid working knowledge of Past Perfect and Adobe Photoshop and/or InDesign
  • Demonstrated experience researching, designing, fabricating and installing exhibitions
  • Experience with care and handling of artifacts
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian History required
  • Familiarity with Mississauga history would be an asset
  • Level 2- Criminal or Judicial Matters Check (previously Regular CRS) will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a  vehicle is necessary

 

Hourly Rate/Salary: $17.91 – $21.33
