Mississauga actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan recipient of Canadian Screen Award special honour
“A young actress from Mississauga is being honoured with a Canadian Screen Award special honour.
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, star of the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever” is this year’s recipient of the Radius Award, which is presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television for someone who makes waves globally.
Ramakrishnan, a 20-year-old Meadowvale Secondary School alum, landed the lead role in “Never Have I Ever” in 2019. The show, which has been renewed for a third season, is a coming-of-age comedy of a first-generation Indian-American teenager.
The series won the People’s Choice Award for Comedy Show of 2021 while Ramakrishnan was a nominee for the Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Performance in a New Scripted Series last year.
Ramakrishnan is also one of the stars in “Seeing Red,” the upcoming Pixar film set to be released on Disney Plus in March.
While special honours such as the Radius Award have already been announced, nominees for other Canadian Screen Awards will be announced Feb. 15. Awards will be presented during Canadian Screen Week from April 4 to 10.”
