Connecting Mississauga to the arts, and the arts to Mississauga and beyond
Join Martys HUBIn this Family Day virtual session ( for all ages) each participant will create a colourful winter scene to reflect a more joyful side of winter.
Drawing upon the enduring paintings of Maud Lewis we will explore Lewis’ approach to painting the everyday. I call these ‘genre’ scenes life portraits.
In this Family Day session each participant will create a colourful winter scene to reflect a more joyful side of winter. As we see in Lewis’ portraits of winter, bold colour and shapes are central themes.
Guided by artist-facilitator Kathleen Downie, participants will learn some of the basics of perspective,
colour, and design to inform the creation of your own Lewis-inspired winter masterpiece!
Required materials will include drawing paper, pencils (sharpener and eraser), water colour paper, water colour paints (markers, pastels, crayons, and pencil crayons will also work), paint brushes, water, a cloth to catch spills.
