Kayla Jackson, a recent graduate form Sheridan College who has grown up in the village of Alton, has compiled a collection of over fifty stunning works to be shown in the Falls Gallery from August 4th to the 15th.
Kayla’s work derives from her own upbringing in Alton and her reflection of its history. In searching for inspiration for this show, she trekked through the streets of her village along with her mentor, Paul Morin, to catch glimpses of where history and the present coexist.
The pieces of this show highlight the beauty of Alton’s history and the lives that came before us, while inciting us to consider the future of our town. With ‘Vivid Moments, Vivid Memories’, Kayla hopes to highlight the implications of appreciating what we have -in the same way her plein air landscape paintings share gratitude for the beauty of nature- so that we care to preserve it.
Kayla and mentor Paul Morin will be hosting a reception for Vivid Moments, Vivid Memories on Thursday, August 5th from 3:30 to 5pm in the Falls Gallery. Visitors can enter a draw for one of three small original paintings from Thursday through Saturday, August 5th to 7th.
When new subdivisions and rebeatification projects threaten to alter the face of this 200 year old village, local artist Kayla Jackson takes on a project to capture the charm and beauty of its historical buildings. Under the mentorship of decorated artist and illustrator Paul Morin, her ‘plein air’ approach and textural paint attempts to preserve the charming town in over fifty works.
