CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS
The “Full Body” exhibit is a 3-month dance photography exhibit that will tour the GTA from September to November 2022. It will empower dance photographers to focus their lenses on the grace and power of diverse bodies, celebrating intersectional identities.
The “Full Body” exhibit will intentionally place 8 dance photographs in unusual locations, inspiring viewers to reimagine their City, communities and the arts. The specific anti-racist intent of “Full Body” will challenge public perceptions of race in dance – encouraging a broader understanding of dance and of dancers. In sum, the exhibit will encourage broader ways of knowing each other; it will celebrate movement as a joyful, social, shared human experience.
We are encouraging dance photographers to submit 3 images to be considered for inclusion in this exhibition. If selected, the images will be professionally reproduced and will tour Mississauga for 3 months, at 6 different sites – ranging from public to private, indoor to outdoor – dance studios, festivals, coffee shops, libraries, and retail – in partnership with local community and businesses.

Chosen photographers will receive:
$400 exhibition fee
Professional grade printing for their selected image
City-wide presentation of their work in prominent and unusual locations

BACKGROUND
The “Full Body” exhibit is a touring dance photography initiative sparked by Mississauga dance-theatre company Frog in Hand to celebrate the joy of dance, contribute to placemaking, and amplify the voices of BIPOC dancers and photographers. It intentionally creates ally-ships in the Mississauga community by centring multicultural voices in public spaces – making dance, and diverse bodies visible agents of social change. This exhibit reimagines unique locations in the City, promoting the radical notion that an art gallery can be anywhere that encourages us to pause, look and consider. This exhibition brings dance and photography to new and unexpected sites – in some cases quite literally taking art “off the wall” and into a park, garden, splash pad or outdoor patio.
Frog in Hand is the ‘convener’ of this project, which truly exists to make space for our tremendous curators: Alvin Collantes, Rohan Dhupar, Ankita Alemona and Colleen Snell. This team represents Frog in Hand collaborators who have worked with the company over the long term, some dating back over 15 years. Together the Curatorial Team brings over 70 years of dance experience with international training and performance credits in England, India, Israel, Germany, Japan, The Philippines, Sweden, Austria, Thailand and more. All are inspired dance artists with a commitment to advocacy, social justice, and collaboration who want to see, make, and participate in the arts in Mississauga.
