“The City of Mississauga is seeking poet performers to compete in our 4th Annual Poetry Slam. This year’s competition will take place on April 19, 2023, at the Living Arts Centre in Roger’s Theatre.
This opportunity is open to Mississauga-based poets and spoken word artists aged 14 to 24.
Submissions
Artists are invited to complete a submission package to be considered for the Poetry Slam. Submissions must include original content only. Applicants can only perform a poem they have written themselves.
Submissions will be accepted until March 31, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee made up of City staff and Mississauga’s Poet Laureates using the following criteria:
- Artistic merit and quality
- Appropriateness to the venue/program goals
- Age-appropriate (suitable for a family audience)
Poetry Slam
The Poetry Slam will be scored and prizes will be offered to the top three poets. There will be three judges scoring based on content, delivery, and impact.
