The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) invites emerging and established artists living and working in Ontario to apply to its Fourth Annual Juried Show of Visual Arts.

Jurors:
Atanas Bozdarov is an artist and designer based in Brampton, Ontario. His recent projects have explored systems and structures of accessibility, and architectural propositions for public space. He has exhibited at the Art Gallery of Mississauga; University of Waterloo Art Gallery; Contemporary Calgary; the Textile Museum of Canada; the MAI, Montréal, arts interculturels; and Tangled Art Gallery as part of the Mayworks Festival. Bozdarov received his MDes from OCAD University and teaches design in the University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College’s joint Art and Art History program.
Hibah Mian is a Mississauga-based curator and creative producer whose innovative approach to community co-creation and synergetic processes drives the redesign of white spaces. She showcases and exhibits both local and international artists throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Mian is experienced in creative direction, event management, educational pedagogy, and program management, and has worked with Museums of Mississauga, The City of Toronto, UrbanArts TO, Artscape, Mississauga Arts Council, Visual Arts Mississauga, Manifesto Community Projects, and Oxford Properties, among others.
Sarah Quinton is an independent curator who grew up in Mississauga and currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. She has curated many exhibitions that put cultural inclusivity, social awareness, and accessibility at the forefront through educational programs and community outreach. Her curatorial practice includes benchmark projects that have come to define a discourse that focuses on complex intersections between art, craft, and design, and she has written extensively on Canadian artists and their contributions to the field of contemporary textiles. On the strength of this interdisciplinary arc, Quinton is frequently called upon as an advisor, mentor, juror, and advocate. She has taught and lectured at museums, galleries, universities, and colleges in Canada and abroad. She is Curatorial Director Emeritus at the Textile Museum of Canada.

Join Mississauga-based artist Fausta Facciponte in an online seminar to help you prepare your submission for the upcoming AGM Juried Show of Visual Arts. This seminar will help you understand the jury expectations of your submission and provide insight into this process.

Important Information
Selected artists will be notified during the week of September 23, 2024.
Selected art must be delivered to the Art Gallery of Mississauga on Saturday, October 5 or Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 12 to 4pm.
Opening Reception and Awards Presentations to take place at the AGM on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 6–8pm.
Art must be collected between Thursday, January 16, 2025 and Friday, January 17, 2025 between 11 am and 4pm.

All successful artists will receive an exhibition fee of $100

Overview of Terms of Entry
Applications are only accepted electronically and should be sent through our online form.
Artists may submit 1 recent piece (completed between 2021–2024) for jurying. Open to all emerging and established artists 18 years of age and older, living and working in Ontario.
Submissions can include paintings in any medium, drawings, mixed media, fibre art and sculpture, photography, new media and video. Work must be original.
All work must be exhibition-ready. For 2-dimensional work (e.g. drawings, paintings, photographs), this includes being professionally framed or mounted on a rigid surface with appropriate mounting hardware. D-hooks and wiring must be securely attached.
NOTE: If artwork is not considered exhibition-ready when delivered, it will not be included in the exhibition.
For 2-dimensional submissions:
- Send only one digital image of the entire artwork as per the specifications provided on the online form
- Maximum size of actual artwork: 153cm wide x 360cm high (approx. 5ft wide x 12ft high)
- Diptychs and triptychs must fit within these dimensions
3-dimensional/sculptural pieces:
- Please send two images (two different views) or a video of work in-site demonstrating audio, visual, kinetics as it applies to the work.
Film, Video and New Media:
- Submissions must be accompanied by clear exhibition specifications and a signed model release form, if applicable.
Additional Guidelines for New Media Submissions:
The AGM has the following equipment available for exhibition purposes.
- One (1) Sony 65″ Class – X77L Series – 4K UHD LED LCD TV (wall-mounted)
- Four (4) 37” Flatscreen TV’s (which can be stand or wall-mounted)
- Three (3) media players supporting formats: MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MPG, VOB, M4V. Supported video formats: MPEG1/2/4, H.264, VC-1, RM/RMVB, WMV9, and mp4.
- One (1) Sony HT-S100F 2.0 ch Soundbar with Bluetooth capability
- Two (2) Epson Powerlite 4855WU WUXGA, 3 LCD Projectors (can show 1080p native resolution), 3 Optima Pro 800p projectors (not full HD).
- Two (2) speakers that play off MicroSD card (MP4)
No substitutions – only work that has been submitted and accepted by the jurors will be included in the exhibition. Works sold are subject to 20% commission to the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The application entry fee is not refundable.
The AGM reserves the right to decline a submission deemed unsuitable for the show – this includes work that is not dry, not properly framed, work created with assistance, reproductions, or copies of another’s artwork. Giclée’s paintings are considered reproductions and are not acceptable.
Shipping and Insurance:
All shipping arrangements and insurance to and from the Art Gallery of Mississauga is the responsibility of the artist. Artwork selected for the Juried Show of Visual Arts will be insured by the AGM for the duration of the exhibition.
