WHAT: Exhibition Theme below. Abstract or landscape could work IF related to the human condition.
“Who am I?” and “What does it mean to be human?” This exhibit will engage us by revealing what is
uniquely different, yet profoundly the same in the many facets of our humanity.
It’s also a testament to and celebration of our fascination with the human face and form and how we
engage in daily life and community. We connect across generations, centuries, and eras with iconic pieces,
such as Degas’ pastels of graceful ballerinas, Karsh’s intense photographic portraits, and the gently smiling
Mona Lisa.
How we inhabit our space and interact, our vitality and verve, these are the very amulets of our
existence on this earth. A search for the iconic that unites us can be discovered as photographers and
other fine artists explore and connect the theme to the human condition with their Artist Statements.
WHO: Conceived and hosted by E. Connie Munson of Studio By Design and a coalition of artists and
organizations. While the Scotiabank CONTACT Festival is the world’s largest photography event, she asked
for and received permission to include other fine arts in the exhibit.
ecmunson is a passionate photographer, writer, artist, and gallerist, who exhibits photography across
Ontario. Most notable are: a recent solo show at the Millcroft Inn and Spa, two pieces shown at the
Ontario Legislative Assembly, and Tangled Reflections, placing third in its category at the McMichael
Gallery. She belongs to several arts organizations, is active on boards, and writes for or edits newsletters.
From pieces in the 2022 & 2023 shows to some of the events that made them come alive to our growing excitement for the 2024 festival. This collaborative spirit in the arts fields has led to the premiere Festival of
ARTFUL Communities for 2024. Music and film viewings plus other events every weekend!
The Ad Hoc Advisory Group has been working on this festival since June 2023 . and
includes: Judy Daly, Program and Art Consultant; Music Director, Paul Llew-Williams; Chuck Scott, Film
Consultant, Marlon Porter, member at large, and Connie Munson, Organizer and Program.
