Mississauga’s premiere chamber choir – Mississauga Chamber Singers (MCS) – is seeking a dynamic individual with 3-5 years in arts administration. Our innovative and inclusive team looks forward to welcoming you as a member of our board of directors as we continue to bring the choral arts to the communities of Mississauga.

As a member of the MCS Board, you help ensure that the organization continues to offer classical choral music at the highest possible level of performance excellence to audiences in the City of Mississauga.

MISSION:

  • To be a community based auditioned chamber choir presenting excellent performances encompassing a wide range of the classical choral repertoire.
  • To preserve the classic choral art form and introduce this music to new and diverse audiences.
  • To nurture a culture of learning, furthering the education and appreciation of this musical art-form.
  • To develop and strengthen community relationships within the communities of Mississauga through a shared celebration of the joy of singing.
  • To engage emerging artists and foster the choral art form in next generation performers and audiences.
  • To delight, inspire and engage our audiences, motivating their loyalty and generosity.

VISION:

  • MCS strives to be Mississauga’s premiere chamber choir, dedicated to promoting the appreciation of classical choral music.
  • MCS continues to be a thriving, vibrant and integral member of the artistic community within the city of Mississauga.

Role of the Board of Directors:

The role of the board is to ensure that MCS achieves its mission in an ethical way through linkages between the organization and its community. In addition, the board has the overall responsibility for the financial stewardship and viability of MCS and must ensure that it raises appropriate funding to meet its overall objectives.

Major responsibilities:

  • Organizational leadership and advisement
  • Commitment to the organizations strategic directions
  • Oversight of policies and procedures
  • Active participation in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board

Meetings and time commitment:

  • The board of directors typically meets 6 times per year, usually in August, September, November, January, March, and May.
  • A time commitment of approximately 4 hours per month, (includes Board preparation, meeting and committee meeting time)

Expectations of Board Members:

  • Directors familiarize themselves with the work and finances of the organization.
  • Each director oversees one committee. 
  • Directors are active participants and volunteers and willingly accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
  • Directors are expected to attend all board meetings, and to prepare by reviewing materials and reports prior to meetings.
  • Directors participate in fundraising for the organization in raising contributed revenue, in accordance with the annual fundraising plan.
  • Directors are expected to make, or generate, an individual annual financial donation to the organization. 
  • Directors get to know other Board members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.
  • Directors believe in and commit to the organization’s mission and advocate for the organization and its activities.
