Over Hill and Dale Exhibition

Breaking News!! Ginger snaps just like grandma used to make can be found at Heather’s
Bakery Café in Georgetown, which just happens to be where you also can see February’s new
show, Over Hill and Dale. Being installed Wednesday, February 1, area artists Karen Brown of
Erin, Kayla Jackson of Alton, and Connie Munson of Brampton are delighted to showcase their
art where it is part of such a welcoming village hub.

These three artists cover a lot of ground as they roam Over Hill and Dale, inspired by the
people, landscapes and farmlands, and charm of small towns that they discover. Jackson can
often be found painting plein air (working outside in the open air) in rural hamlets or the
countryside, while both Brown and Munson, former farmgirls, are also out and about with their
cameras looking for that next country barn with Munson keeping watch for another candid
capture for her casual portraits collection.

Passionate about all things photography, Munson also enjoys chalk or soft pastels painting.
Like Brown, she is besotted with barns and feels most at home in the rolling hills of Halton and
Caledon with their lush farmlands. Residing in northeast Brampton she can easily head for the
hills for inspiration with her work. Showing across southern Ontario, most notably her work has
hung in the Ontario Legislature’s In-Camera Dining Room and at the McMichael Gallery. View

Brown’s encaustic mixed media works hang in several private collections as well as at her
studio, the Beehive, in the Alton Mill Arts Center. She incorporates her photography of rural
scenes, in particular the barns that are disappearing across Ontario, with other ephemera such as
old wallpapers and lace that convey a deep nostalgia and yearning for an era and day gone-by.
She and her husband are beekeepers and yes, she does use their own wax in her encaustic

The spirit of small town living is vibrant in Jackson’s acrylic and oil paintings. Her first
solo show was “a love letter” to her hometown, Alton, a showcase celebrating the heritage of this
village with over 60 pieces hung in the Falls Gallery at the Alton Mill Arts Centre. She is busy
with commission work, delivering workshops, and the plein air painting that she does e atacross

southern Ontario and Canada commemorating the rural landscapes and hamlets. Do check out
