Connecting Mississauga to the arts, and the arts to Mississauga and beyond
Join Martys HUBEnjoy an evening of live entertainment and an exclusive sneak peek of the new documentary “KANAKIYOST: art, identity, and belonging” followed by an audience talk with director Cathleen MacDonald and cast members Lynn Taylor and Young Elder Philip Cote.
“Kanakiyost” tells the story of local artist Lynn Taylor (Oneida name, Kanakiyost). As an urban Indigenous person and the child of a residential school survivor, Lynn felt isolated from her community. She turns those feelings into forming a group to bring Indigenous knowledge and culture to the city.
The film features the art of Lynn Taylor, Tawny Mestecanean, Skinny Davis, and Norval Morrisseau, and the music of Dwayne LaForme’s Boogie Blues, and eaoh Argos, with a film score composed by singer-songwriter Arlene Paculan.
This event is free but you must register to attend. Space is limited. Reserve your ticket now at https://KanakiyostMovie.eventbrite.ca
“Kanakiyost: art, identity, and belonging” was funded by Mississauga Arts Council’s MicroGrant Program through the support of RAMA Charity Gaming.
