Calling all creative organizers! Ready to make a positive impact in your community while collaborating with artists?

 

This information session will introduce artists to ArtsCare, MAC’s program that champions the use of creative experiences to enhance mental health. In this session with art therapist and counsellor Haley Toll and wellness workshop facilitator and writer Susan Ksiezopolski, participants will learn the difference between art therapy and arts for wellness, and the basics of creating their own ArtsCare workshop.

About the Presenters:

Haley Toll (she/her), CCC, RCAT, RP has worked since 2010 as an art therapist, counsellor, policy advisor, coordinator, and psychosocial support advisor to support children and adults experiencing trauma, cancer treatment, and psychological challenges in: Mongolia, Botswana, Edmonton, Squamish, St. John’s, and Montreal. Haley has also trained mental health practitioners and taught students across Canada and in Botswana, Thailand, and Mongolia in creative arts counselling, crisis intervention, supporting children, grief therapy, family art therapy, and art therapy research, among other topics.

Haley is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Faculty of Education at Memorial University, where her research integrates art therapy and arts-based inquiry to support newcomer women to Canada.

 

Susan Ksiezopolski, an award winning published poet is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers. She produced the “Art of Wellness – Creative Path to Mental Health” (short documentary spotlighting the value of the arts-based programs) funded by Bell, Trillium Foundation and Mississauga Arts Council (MAC). In 2021, it was short listed in the UK for the Best International Social Prescribing Project. Susan is the recipient of the 2021 Bell, MAC Arts for Mental Health Award.

Susan facilitates and delivers workshops across the GTA that spotlight the role of arts in fuelling a sense of community and wellbeing. And enable participants to build a creative tool kit to support their mental hygiene and emotional wellbeing practises. A HeartMath Certified Building Personal Resilience Coach, she founded WriteWell to create a path for wellness through expressive writing. She is currently working on her Therapeutic Arts Practitioner Certification.
