A winner of many national and international awards, Sid Gendron, better known locally as Sawmill Sid, is creating an enormous original wooden sculpture to be the centerpiece of the gallery exhibit at the AOTC Fine Art Show. AOTC is honoured to host this local indigenous wood carver.
Sawmill Sid is an environmental artist known throughout North America for his practice of using only trees that have fallen due to storms or disease. A champion of Mother Earth, Sid has been awarded the prestigious “Ontario Wood Award”, Mississauga’s “The Credits, Cultural & Heritage Award”, and “The Credits, Natural Heritage Award”.
“I’m an Indigenous artist, trained by Mother Earth and life. It is important to understand that my art is not what you see, but what leaves you thinking and talking and wondering about long after you have left my stage”, says Sid.
The completed work will not be seen before the opening of the art show, when it will be revealed You will have to visit to discover the final complete design.
