Becoming And Being is about discovery and truth. In Becoming, each artist takes a bold
step in defining who they are as artists and examining their personal artistic goals. They engage
in the ongoing process of losing and finding oneself through self-reflection and they untangle
their ideas to gain a deeper understanding of what they do. Together, they explore new territory
in the exhibition space and its importance as a site to exchange, connect, and advance their art
practice.
In Being, each artist stays grounded to their unique artistic voice. They embrace the
power of being true to their vision by following their intuition and individual path. Becoming
And Being invites the viewer to reflect and celebrate their own personal journey of who they are
while staying truthful to oneself.
During weekly gatherings at VAM, the artists engaged in lively discussions about their
work. They dissected different aspects of exhibiting art, such as writing an artist statement,
formulating a theme, preparing promotional material, designing the gallery layout, and following
up after closing. This show is the realization of what they learned and discovered. Becoming And
Being is curated by Fausta Facciponte with the curatorial statement comprising the body of this
press release.
