Eileen will be remembered for her soft-spoken kindness, her curious spirit, her twinkling eye and her great love of the arts.
Eileen took up painting after her children had grown. She earned a Fine Arts degree from Sheriden College and for the next 35 years, she painted regularly with the Pastel Artists of Canada, Colour and Form Society, Clarkson Art Society and Creative Studio.
Eileen loved experimenting with different mediums. In a 2013 article from the Mississauga News, Eileen said “Each medium offers a unique challenge to me. I can always think of another ‘What if?’ to use them. My motto is ‘Try’ — which sometimes works well.” Eileen had a 25 year retrospective show at VAM that year. “With this show I hope to share a slice of my journey of curiosity and experimentation for the years of 1995 to 2005, using these different media.”
We welcome our VAMily to enjoy the artwork Eileen Oswald has created as her legacy as an artist continues.
