From the City of Missisauga:

“The City’s public art program(External link) contributes to the unique identity of Mississauga. Through a formal selection process, the City commissions professional artists to create visual art for public spaces.

As part of the City’s renovation for Burnhamthorpe Community Centre(External link), the City is commissioning playful, engaging, and accessible public art that becomes a unique gathering space for those who may not always see themselves reflected in their built environment. The artwork will be the first in our permanent collection to integrate accessibility as a core value and essential component of the visitor’s art experience.

In 2022, the Public Art Program invited professional artists and artist teams to submit credentials and expressions of interest. Submissions were evaluated by an arms-length art selection committee, comprised of individuals with expertise in design, architecture, curatorial practice, arts education, lived experience, and knowledge of the local neighbourhood. From this call, four applicants were shortlisted and invited to develop proposals.
