 This weekend, Mississauga is celebrating Italian heritage with the return of Mississauga Italfest. Heritage Mississauga will be onsite during the festivities at Celebration Square with a fascinating display on the Cooksville Brickyard and tracing immigration stories from Italy to Mississauga. This week in our Saturday Matinee, Justine Lyn continues the exploration of Italian heritage in Mississauga with her presentation of “The Life of An Artist: Angelo Belluz In His Own Words”. |
 Angelo Belluz was born into a farming family in the Azzano Decimo, Pordenone countryside in Italy in 1924. In 1947, he married dressmaker Anna Delbel and just two years later, he made the biggest trip of his life. He immigrated all the way to Canada, settling in Port Credit upon his arrival. He came at first by himself to get settled before his wife joined him. Those days in the very beginning were very difficult and at times, he questioned whether he had made the right decision. Angelo found work at the Cooksville Brickyard but it was his talents as an artist that allowed him to leave a lasting legacy that can be seen in Mississauga to this day. Heritage Mississauga sat with Angelo to record his oral history about his immigration story, his life in Canada, and his prolific artistry.
