Opening Tuesday, August 6 and hanging through August 23 at the Shelburne Town Hall is, As the Artists View It, a show of the renown regional group, Southern Ontario Visual Artists (SOVA). With twelve of the group hanging about 40 pieces of work in this exhibition, there will be an excellent range of their media and genres on view for visitors to this lovely heritage building.
SOVA is an eclectic group of fourteen artists who have become friends over the years and a formal exhibition group. With strong friendships and support proving their worth over the past several years, SOVA continues to showcase fresh works of its members. From creatively interpreted landscapes and wildlife paintings, to pieces based in realism or with symbolic influences, the unique styles and marks of these artists are evident whether in oils, acrylics, watercolours, scratchboard, prints, mixed-media, or photography.
Lynden Cowan, a founding member, comments on the level of professionalism in the group. ”… (they) constantly expand the personal boundaries of their skills and are never satisfied with the mundane.” Individually, they exhibit extensively, winning awards and accolades, with some of them showing their work internationally.
E. Connie Munson, a photographer, writer, gallerist, and MAC member, was invited to join SOVA last summer. This is her first show with the group – ” … the camaraderie and cooperative sharing of work makes it fun showing together.”
