Sherri Murray, MAC’s Communications Producer met with accomplished poet and author, Anna Yin to chat about her life-long achievements such as being Mississauga’s Inaugural Poet Laureate from 2015-2017, some favourite moments in her career so far, her writing process, and more information on her poetry workshops. She also chats with us about her new Haiku project, Here and Now, Discover Mississauga and More, that recently won a MAC MicroGrant!
About Anna Yin
Anna Yin was Mississauga’s Inaugural Poet Laureate (2015-2017) and Ontario representative to the League of Canadian Poets (2013-2016). She has authored five poetry collections and one collection of translations: Mirrors and Windows (Guernica Editions 2021). Anna won the 2005 Ted Plantos Memorial Award, two MARTY Awards, two scholarships from USA and three grants from Ontario Arts Council. Her poems/translations have appeared at Queen’s Quarterly, ARC Poetry, New York Times, China Daily, CBC Radio, Literary Review of Canada etc. She teaches Poetry Alive workshops at schools, colleges and for communities since 2011. She has read on Parliament Hill, at Austin International Poetry Festival, Edmonton Poetry Festival and universities in China, Canada and USA.
Her new haiku project including walking tours and online workshops plus Here and Now, Discover Mississauga and More eBook publication won a 2022 MAC MicroGrant. She invites everyone to join this project to build creative and resilient communities.
