“Mississauga residents are being encouraged to take time out and read a book, or several, this month and beyond.
October is Canadian Library Month and Mississauga Library officials are reminding people about the fun and adventure to be found in books and other materials available at any of Mississauga’s 18 library branches.
They’ll also be marking Ontario Public Library Week, which runs Oct. 16 to 22.
“Libraries are magic. Library staff can often recommend books from a vague description, they don’t judge, they curate and display books, (and) they plan interesting and enriching events,” City of Mississauga Library officials say.
“Mississauga has 18 library locations across the city with shelves full of your next dive into mysterious, heartbreaking, inspiring, terrifying, curious and creative stories. The library holds fiction and nonfiction, graphic novels, newspapers, magazines and the latest how-to books covering as many subjects as your heart desires. You can also borrow or stream music, movies and television shows.”
Residents are encouraged to follow the library on social media and participate in both virtual and in-person events taking place during library week and throughout October.
Also taking place or available this month, among other programs and services, are:
- author talks/craft of writing sessions
- online “creepy” lectures
- “newcomer to Canada” services/sessions
- resource and information centres at Burnhamthorpe and Mississauga Valley libraries designed to support and empower people who are homeless and/or experiencing mental health issues
- tech assistance in the form of computers, photocopiers, printers and scanners that can be borrowed
