“Canada Day is coming up fast, and Mississauga’s Port Credit has already planned an exciting array of events with Paint The Town Red: The massive celebration that has regularly brought tens of thousands of visitors to Port Credit since 2003.
It all kicks off on July 1st with a huge parade, exciting events for the whole family at Port Credit’s Memorial Park, and a beautiful fireworks display to close the night out – making this one of the most hotly anticipated Canada Day celebrations in the GTA.
There’s still plenty of time for residents to register to be part of the parade, or to become a volunteer for the event.
Here’s a closer look at everything that’s happening this year:
A colourful parade of more than 70 diverse entries.
This year’s Canada Day parade will feature a ton of colourful floats, cultural marching bands, performance groups, Mississauga businesses, youth, and community groups who are all in participation. Local, provincial, and federal political representatives will also be in attendance. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. sharp and will travel predominantly along Lakeshore Rd. East.
All of the parade floats, bands and walking entries will be judged, with ribbons awarded to the winners (floats will be judged prior to the parade). Parade registration is open until 5:00 p.m. on June 15, so be sure to apply soon to be part of this already massive event.
Live music and entertainment.
Get ready for a packed schedule of live music and performances on Memorial Park’s Main Stage. An array of performers, local bands and Canadian artists will be taking the stage to dazzle and entertain:
1:30 pm. Taylor, Shawn, Billie – Pop Hits Live
3:00 p.m. Cawthra Park Jazz Lab
4:10 p.m. Fiddlestix
5:15 p.m. Essence of Bowie – David Bowie Tribute
6:30 p.m. Forever Seger – Bob Seger Tribute Band
7:45 p.m. Still Rock n Roll – Music of Billy Joel
9:00 p.m. The Hip Experience
Streetsville School of Rock will be performing at the Credit Village Marina, so there will be no shortage of fantastic live music to enjoy in Port Credit.
A MWF Pop Up Kids Zone with games, crafts, superheroes and princesses.
For the young ones coming along, the MWF Pop Up Kids Zone is the best place to keep them entertained with a variety of games, crafts, stage performances, and interactive kids’ activities. Kids will get to meet and get their photo taken with popular superheroes and Disney princesses – Batman, Spiderman, Princesses Elsa and the Cast of Mirabel will all be making special appearances – before singing along to fun tunes with Singer Spotlight Karaoke.
A grand finale fireworks display.
You can’t have Canada Day without fireworks, and when night falls, Port Credit will be home to one of the most dazzling fireworks displays in the city. Find a spot to sit down, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of colourful fireworks bursting against the night sky at Port Credit Memorial Park. Fireworks start at 10:15 p.m.
Other events planned for the day include an aerobatics demonstration, and a Vendor Village where a number of local artisans, small business owners and community groups will display and sell a variety of food and wares.
Paint The Town Red is a first-class, true red and white celebration of national pride that has regularly attracted tens of thousands of visitors to Port Credit since its inception in 2003. This year’s event will be bigger than ever, so don’t miss out.
