“A popular festival of lights that attracted several hundred thousand visitors during its first run in Mississauga is reopening the gates for the summer season.
The renowned Illumi–A Dazzling World of Lights, which set up on a huge north Mississauga site near Hurontario St. and Hwy. 407 from last Sept. 14 through this past April 10, will reopen for the summer on June 29.
The attracti0n, which drew some 300,000 visitors in its initial run, will remain open until Labour Day. It will then close once again before reopening later in the fall for a session that will continue into 2024, according to officials with Montreal-based Illumi.
The festival of lights will be closed on some dates throughout the summer, so officials encourage people to visit the Illumi website for dates and ticket information.
The Illumi attraction was initially scheduled to run from last September to early January, but officials extended the closing date several times due to the show’s popularity.
It’s billed as the “largest light, sound and multimedia show in the world” and Illumi officials said earlier they’re looking forward to bringing “magic to the GTA for years to come.”
A spokesperson said earlier this year that the company is working closely with the City of Mississauga to keep the attraction in town “potentially until 2026-27.”
Scheduled to come to Mississauga on several occasions since late 2021, the Illumi festival of lights finally opened in the city last Sept. 14.
It’s located at 7174 Derrycrest Dr. on a 600,000-sq.-ft. site that’s equal in size to 10 football fields, a spokesperson for Illumi said earlier.
“The extraordinary light show is the first of its kind in the Toronto market and the largest light, sound and multimedia show in the world,” a spokesperson wrote in an earlier email to insauga.com.
Featuring more than 20 million LED bulbs, the seasonal festive attraction has captivated kids and adults alike, organizers say.”
