“The Port Credit summer concert series returns on July 3.
Summer concerts return to Mississauga with a full line-up of bands bringing music from many genres — from 1950s rock to pop and country.
The concert series begins in July at Port Credit Memorial Park and organizers hope it marks a permanent return to live music.
“People have waited a long time to gather together to enjoy music with no restrictions,” says Peter Toller of Little Peter and the Elegants.
The concerts are free and people are encouraged to bring a chair or blankets to sit on the grass.
The series kicks off on Sunday, July 3 with Little Peter and the Elegants, an eight-piece band hailing from Port Credit.
The original members of Little Peter and his band attended Port Credit Secondary School and performed for the first time at the school’s Christmas concert in 1973 playing classic tunes such as Rock Around the Clock and Yakety Yak. The band members have changed over the years, but the group continues to play songs from the 50s, 60s and early 70s with a focus on vocal harmonies. The current band line-up has been together for about 10 years.
It is hoped that some of the origianl members of the Elegants will attend the July 3 concert to help celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary.
The concerts continue every Sunday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. during July and August.
