Who are we?
Sampradaya Dance Centre (Centre) is a dynamic arts centre, focused on promoting South Asian
Arts in Mississauga and across Canada. “Sampradaya Dance Academy” and “Sampradaya Dance
Creations” (www.sampradaya.ca) founded in 1990 by Artistic Director Lata Pada, are located in
this Centre. An award-winning artist, Lata Pada is the recipient of many prestigious awards
including the Order of Canada in 2009, and holds the distinction of being the first South Asian
artist to receive this notable Canadian national honour.
“Sampradaya Dance Academy” (SDA) is a premier institution dedicated to the professional
teaching of the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam. “Sampradaya Dance Creations”
(SDC) is a professional dance company performing and touring classical and contemporary
productions, nationally and internationally.
Who are we looking for?
The Academy is currently seeking a dynamic individual with strong administrative and
coordination skills to join us as the Administrative Coordinator for 1 year contract with
possibility for renewal.
Responsibility
• Responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of SDC and
SDA. This role is vital to support the director and staff including teachers, students, parents
through a variety of tasks related to the academy
• Maintain internal and external communication within both organizations.
• Records management.
• Manage performance fees, student fee records/invoices and collection and preparing bank
deposits.
• Office management – general office administration duties: filing; order supplies; coordinate
meetings, manage petty cash – log, receipts, reports, etc.
• Provide administrative support for meetings- prepare for academy meetings and take
minutes, assist with board meeting preparation and retreats.
• Coordinate design, print production, and distribution of all marketing materials.
• Source and manage venue rentals, including coordination with volunteers for academy
recital
• Work with volunteers and committees to organize fundraising and other events.
• Coordination of large mailings.
• Distribution of e-newsletter and other e-mail communications (invitations, notices, etc.).
• Organization of special events.
• Keeping track of required website maintenance/ timely updates, etc.
• Provide callers/visitors with the necessary information about the Dance Centre and its
programs/services.
• General housekeeping duties as assigned.
• Other duties and/or projects as required.
Qualification and Skills
Successful candidate should possess:
• Post-secondary education or equivalent.
• Diploma/degree in Arts Management would be an asset.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in an administrative role and handling finances, fee
collection.
• Proactive, detail oriented, self-motivated and meticulously organized with an interest and
background in South Asian arts.
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience providing customer service.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have the flexibility to handle various job
assignments while prioritizing all assigned tasks.
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment are a must.
• Ontario driver’s license and a reliable car will be an asset.
