POSITION TITLE: INTERACTIVE MEDIA WRITER
STATUS: CONTRACT/NO BENEFITS

DURATION: 35 HOURS/WEEK JUL 5, 2021 – AUG 27, 2021 (8 WEEKS)

Safe City Mississauga, a registered charitable organization, is guided by the vision of a crime free city in
which to live, work and play and is mandated to provide programs, services and information that contribute
to the prevention and reduction of crime and the promotion of community safety initiatives in the City of
Mississauga.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a creative, dedicated individual to join our team as an Interactive Media Writer to
support digital content development with specific experience in video and graphic media. This level of
position requires strong creative and technical skills including excellent communication skills, problem
solving, self-motivation and the ability to switch directions efficiently. This role is also a great way for postsecondary graduates to continue building their portfolio. You may be asked for your input on our system
layout, so any HTML or scripting experience is a major plus. The Interactive Media Writer is accountable for
the effective development of content that will contribute to the achievement of the organization’s mission
and goals.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Project Manager and Executive Director.
2021 Canada Summer Jobs Grant, to be eligible, students must:
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment. The youth may be more than 30
years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of
the employment period.
• Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been
confirmed under the Canada Immigration and Refugee Act for the duration of the employment
• Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work
in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

● Write, design and produce video and audio-based projects aligning to pre-created content
● Communicate with project manager to determine strategic direction towards the content creation
● Research and execute best practiced content for different age groups and their level of engagement
● Create engaging and interactive content
● Use creativity and artistic techniques to provide information in a visual form
● Listen to feedback and alter content to better suit organizational needs
● Create written and visual content for digital applications, such as: videos, graphics, animations,
websites, articles, and other marketing materials
● Provide input in how to best deliver crime prevention training materials to engage audiences virtually
● Deliver weekly updates to Project Manager effectively
● Ensures project meets deadlines
● Perform all other reasonable tasks assigned

SKILLS

● Fast learner
● Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CMS, client databases,
and others)
● Strong technical skills in graphic design, video editing and/or motion graphics
● Creative and imaginative with an eye for color, balance, and layout
● Excellent attention to detail
● Fluent with verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to create from scratch multimedia content (including audio, photos, & videos)
● Digital communication skills
● Adaptable enough to handle concept changes without getting frustrated

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education  (Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience)
  • Work Experience (Minimum 1-2 years of experience in related field)

Nice to have
● Prior experience in non-profit sector
● An academic understanding of the causes and effects of crime, crime prevention methodologies
and theories of change
● Understanding in instructional design
