MISSISSAUGA, ON – Canada’s Queen of Soul, Liberty Silver is set to grace the mainstage at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts for a new concert celebrating women in music entitled, Isn’t She Lovely on Friday, October 6, 2023. Music lovers are invited to this powerful evening celebrating community and our collective voices.

The iconic Canadian singer will take to the stage alongside vocalists Heather ChristineCat BernardiCarla Gonzalez-Casanova and Denise Leslie for an exciting evening featuring live Soul, Jazz, Latin and Rhythm and Blues.  Backed by a powerhouse band featuring some of Canada’s top jazz players including Stu Harrison on keys, Elena Kapeleris on sax, Pat Collins on bass and Morgan Childs on percussion, this is one show live music fans won’t want to miss.

 “Liberty has had a profound impact on artists and audiences across the nation,” explains Heather Christine, creator and producer of Isn’t She Lovely. “She was the first black woman in Canada to win a JUNO Award and has inspired a generation of emerging vocalists including our cast of performers. Liberty’s persevering spirit inspires us to shine our light, share our talents and use our voices with pride. This evening will celebrate friendship, collaboration and the creative lives of these great women of song“.

ABOUT LIBERTY SILVER

Liberty Silver is an iconic Canada vocalist and multiple Juno and Grammy winning recording artist who has a 6.5 octave vocal range. Liberty is the first black woman in Canada to receive a Juno Award. Her Grammy award was earned in association with her performance on the single Tears Are Not Enough (1985), which raised funds for relief of famine in Ethiopia. Liberty Silver has worked alongside some of Canada’s most celebrated artists in the group called Northern Lights, which included Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, and Joni Mitchell, Burton Cummings, Bryan Adams, Neil Young and others. Liberty has performed for and shared the stage with prominent influential figures that include US President Barack Obama, Bob Marley (Madison Square Garden), Maya Angelou, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, Celine Dion, The Temptations, Oscar Peterson, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight and former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev.

ABOUT HEATHER CHRISTINE

Heather Christine is an award-winning vocalist, composer, entertainer and new producer from Mississauga. Her dynamic stage presence and soulful voice has led her to stages across Canada singing for audiences as large as 25,000.  As a recording artist, Heather Christine’s original sound is a fusion of Jazz with elements of R&B and Pop. Her recent single Walking With You was produced by powerhouse Canadian pianist Bill King and can be heard on Toronto’s Jazz FM91, Easy Jazz FM and SwissGroove Radio in Switzerland. In addition to performing over 150 dates a year, Heather is a new producer. She is the creator of Isn’t She Lovely a celebration of women in music.  
 
ABOUT CAT BERNARDI

Cat Bernardi is a jazz vocalist, composer, arranger and educator from Mississauga. Her ‘crystalline’ voice and ‘timeless’ style have led her to stages all around Ontario, Quebec and into Europe. She has performed in jazz festivals around the GTA, and was the 2019 TD Toronto Jazz Hotspot Feature in the Downtown Markham Music Festival. Cat’s first EP, Minor Ballad/Major Romance was released in 2014 to great acclaim, and was featured on Jazz FM 91.1.  
 
ABOUT CARLA GONZALEZ-CASANOVA

Venezuelan born Carla Gonzalez-Casanova is a celebrated vocalist and visual artist who is known for her powerful vocals and energetic performances. One of the G.T.A.’s most active world music performers, Carla sings for thousands of people annually through her work as a front woman with Latintrain and Wharpo, two of Toronto’s popular Latin Musical Acts. Singing in Spanish and English, Carla’s musical career has taken her across the globe to stages in Japan, Trinidad, Spain and Latin America.
 
ABOUT DENISE LESLIE

Denise sings at the intersection of Jazz, R&B and Rock. Her debut recording, One Fine Morning pays tribute to music she cherished during her formative years, primarily, the 1970s.  Produced by award-winning producer/guitarist Bob McAlpine, the album features celebrated bassist Pat Collins, drummer Paul DeLong, pianist Don Baird, solos from Bruce Cassidy and Russ Little and horn players from Brass Transit and Lighthouse.
