Looking Back, Looking Forward a 2-month Promotion Exhibit at Visual Arts Brampton’s Artway Gallery in Shoppers World, Brampton
A retrospective of featured artists and photographers from the 2022 and 2023 FORMS, FACES & SPACES, figuratively speaking! show with a sneak peek at selected submissions for the 2024 show can be enjoyed from February 4 – April 7, 2024.
“I’m going to make you famous, Ed.” This is what Ed Clark was told by his art instructor, Jack Reid (1925 – 2009), a well-known and highly accomplished water colourist who taught over 11,000 students. Reid was hanging a show in the Shopper’s World with some of Ed’s work. Now, decades later, Ed Clark will be able to see a watercolor of his, Old Barn Near Medoc, hanging there, as will 20 other artists and photographers.
The range and diversity of genres and experience in this exhibit are literally, show-stoppers. Colleen Dee, president of VAB, and her curatorial team, always draw a lot of attention when changing the shows. But this one promises to be quite exceptional with work from photographers and artists whose work hangs in international collections. While there are some emerging artists, most are mid-career or well-established in their practices.
Sherry Prenevost’s First Nations Elder, an archival pigment print, was voted People’s Choice at the 2023 FORMS, FACES & SPACES, figuratively speaking hung in the Falls Gallery at the Alton Mill Arts Centre. People’s Choice at the 2022 exhibit hung in the Norval Parish Hall were Monique Campbell’s Venetian Blue Hour, a digital archival print, and Leo Dias’ acrylic portrait, Shelley Foster. Campbell, from Hamilton, and Prenevost, from Mississauga, are both photographers, while Dias, of Mississauga, is a painter who works primarily with acrylics.
Get prepared to Head to the Hills in Halton and Caledon! for the 3rd annual exhibit in registered satellite sites of the 28th CONTACT Festival, the world’s largest photography event! You can expect to see many of these ‘early bird’ submissions in that event from May 1 – 31.
Organized and hosted by Studio By Design’s E. Connie Munson, who is passionate about all things photography and community building. The Ad Hoc Advisory Group and Munson are working on supporting special events for the 2024 exhibit.
