This is a “Hindi Poetry Film” with translation in English. It is a poem dedicated to the youthful spirit and aspirations of all young women stepping into womanhood. My daughter Tia’s zeal, explorations and her adventurous spirit, along with her resilience, gave birth to this verse.

DUSKY ONE

Wrapped in the mounting hues

Rising from the shores of the silky dusk

I face a setting day

Sweeping the scenic moments

Rippling in my eyes.

 

With all this within me

I seek a handful of sunshine.

 

My feet adorned with swaying zephyr

With chiming restless anklets

I look for the swinging footsteps

The rhythm in humming nature

 

I am the dusky one from the East

Tracing sunshine in the earthy tones of life

 

Raising my gaze

Enriched with the black dust (kohl)

Infinite

I search for a glittering star on the boundless sands of the horizon

 

I am the dusky one from the East

Tracing sunshine in the earthy tones of life

 

Blooming flowers savour

My dazzling youthful intoxication

Spreading the chirping light

In the realms of my Eden

I search for my paradise

In every dewdrop of life

 

I am the dusky one from the East
