“Drumming circles are monthly events, previous round took place in January

This month, a drumming event in Mississauga is teaching people about Indigenous arts and culture.

Organized by the Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters organization, the drumming circle will take place at the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga (UCM) at 84 South Service Rd., Lynn Taylor, an organizer of the event, said.

The events are scheduled for Feb. 23 and March 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants are encouraged to donate $15, or pay what you can.

Those who attend will become familiar with how to sing an Indigenous song and play drums by Philip Cote, one of the members of the Indigenous community, Taylor said.

They will also be served a light soup and Bannock before the circle begins.

These drumming circles are monthly events, and the previous round of the circle took place in January, with 30 participants.

Meanwhile, Taylor said, the organization will have an introduction to the “woodland style painting workshop” on Feb. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Army Navy and Airforce Club in Mississauga.

Registration for this event is still open, and people of all ages are welcome to sign up.
