Activities include skating, exhibits and virtual fitness
“As the colder weather sets in, the City of Mississauga is offering residents free, winter-inspired activities and events to keep busy this holiday season.
Here are some things happening in the city for the family to enjoy.
OUTDOOR SKATING
The City’s largest outdoor rink at Mississauga Celebration Square is now open until mid-March 2023 (weather permitting). Residents can keep warm in one of the heated lounges located in the Amphitheatre or next to the skate rental cabin. More information including hours of operation are available on the city’s website.
There are also plenty of other outdoor rinks in neighbourhood parks in the city. Check out a list on the city’s website.
FESTIVAL OF TREES
From Dec. 2-11, check out the Festival of Trees featuring tree installations and seasonal lights at the Small Arms Inspection Building. There will also be live local entertainment, artisan/culinary markets and workshops.
Admission is pay what you can.
ART EXHIBIT AT BRADLEY MUSEUM
‘Lights! Camera! Empowerment!’ is an exhibition series from DEEN Support Services highlighting the abilities, diversity and passion from a community of individuals with disabilities. The Conference of the Birds exhibit at Bradley Museum draws inspiration from a picture book with the same name by Alexis Lombard, adapted from the poem by Persian poet Farid Uddin Attar. Dates and times of the exhibit are available online.
WE ARE RESILIENT EXHIBIT
Until Jan. 6, view photos and stories created by Mississauga residents, perspectives from international scientific leaders and learn about taking climate action. Dates, times and locations are available online.
FREE FITNESS CLASSES
Throughout the month of December, the city is offering free online fitness classes like yoga, Zumba and seated chair exercise. Classes are 45 minutes long and held virtually over Zoom. Details and the weekly class schedule are available online.
FREE VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES FOR OLDER ADULTS
The city is offering free virtual activities, programs and fitness classes for adults ages 55 and up during weekdays. Activities will be held online through either Cisco WebEx Meetings or Zoom. For a full list of activities and schedules visit the city’s website.
NEW YEAR’S EVE AT CELEBRATION SQUARE
Ring in 2023 at Celebration Square. There will be skating, live entertainment and fireworks plus an early, confetti countdown for kids. Details are available online.”
