“From creating a garden to head out for a hiking or participate in live shows, the city encouraging residents to enjoy the season

With winter finally behind us, the City of Mississauga is offering several ideas to get the most out of spring this year.

START A POLLINATOR-FRIENDLY GARDEN

Spring is a great time to start thinking about what you’ll be planting in your garden. Planting a pollinator-friendly garden with native types of grass, wildflowers, pollinator-friendly flowers and flowering shrubs and trees, is a great way to help pollinators, add some colour to homes and help other insects and animals. Consider making a pollinator-friendly place for bees, butterflies, and other important pollinators.

EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS

Mississauga is home to more than 500 parks, 300 kilometres of trails and conservation areas. City residents can try something new this season, such as hiking, biking, or trail walking to witness the beauty of the city and the rebirth of nature. Visit one of the city’s many parks or trails and take the scenic route this spring.

SIGN UP FOR SPRING PROGRAMS

Want to try something new? The city offers several programs, activities and classes and residents can sign-up. Programs start March 25.

TAKE IN LIVE PERFORMANCES

If you’re a fan of performing arts and celebrating cultural traditions, the city has a lineup of programs. Spring is an important time for many communities as they have rich cultural practices and traditions that show their strong bond with the land and cycles of nature.

Residents can take part in these traditions and celebrations.

• Shen Yun Performing Arts: March 24 to 28. Get tickets through livingartscentre.evenue.net.

• All-Nations Powwow: March 25. Register at utm.utoronto.ca.

• Mississauga Symphony Orchestra: Saturday, April 1. For tickets visit mississauga.ca.

BROWSE LOCAL ANTIQUE MARKETS

If you’re up for a spring decor change at home or just looking to buy one-of-a-kind gifts for your loved ones, the Sunday Antique Market is the place to be. After 31 years at St. Lawrence Market, Toronto’s iconic market has moved to the Small Arms Inspection Building for a one-day treat on April 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors will be able to find treasures from Victorian to mid-century modern and will have a unique shopping experience.”
