“Kanakiyost” was filmed in Mississauga by director-producer Cathleen MacDonald with the support of a MAC MicroGrant. Cathleen’s films and series have broadcast on Discovery Channel, Superchannel, Animal Planet, CBC, PBS, TVO, Canal D, and internationally.
“Kanakiyost” is the story of local artist Lynn Taylor (Oneida name, Kanakiyost). As an urban Indigenous person and the child of a residential school survivor, Lynn felt isolated from her community. She turns those feelings into a grassroots group for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to move forward in a positive way.
This film feels like a warm hug that will change how you think about the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Don’t miss it.
