“Public, outdoor events are back at Celebration Square after a two-year hiatus and the city is gearing up for celebration.
From food festivals to sporting events, we’ve rounded up a number of large events to ensure you make the most of your summer.
Throughout the summer months, food trucks will be back at the square each weekend. Outdoor family movie screenings (Thursday nights), workout and fitness classes (Tuesday nights) and open air story times will also be scheduled throughout June, July and August.
1. Ontario Parasport Games opening ceremony
The city is hosting Ontario’s Parasport Games and will kick off the event with an opening ceremony on May 13.
The games last until Sunday, May 15 and will see para-karate, boccia and wheelchair tennis matches.
2. Mississauga Halal Food Fest
A two-day event featuring over 50 vendors showcasing food stalls from various Middle Eastern and South Asian restaurants June 11 and June 12.
Performances and local artists will be also on stage.
3. National Indigenous Peoples Day
On June 21 from 6 to 10 p.m., residents are invited to attend celebrations for National Indigenous Peoples Day. This event was created in collaboration with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
Headlining performer Logan Staats will take the stage at Celebration Square while attendees can experience food from Indigenous vendors and walk through the artisan market.
4. TD Mosaic 2022 — South Asian Festival
In-person festivals are back for the longest running festival of South Asian art, culture and cuisines for 2022.
A number of musical and dance performances are scheduled for the two-day event on July 22 and 23.
5. Ontario Summer Games opening ceremony
Mississauga will also host the opening ceremony for the province’s summer games with sporting events including archery, triathlon and beach volleyball taking place across the city from July 21 to July 24.
This year marks the 14th edition of the city’s Latin festival, featuring music, dance and live music and a number of food options.
This is the first-time in two years the Latin festival returns to in-person festivities. From July 29 to July 31.
This is North America’s largest Japanese cultural event, highlighting Japanese food, culture and technology. Running from Aug. 20 to Aug. 21.”
