“While museums, theatres and other arts venues across Ontario may be closed during the current slate of COVID-19 restrictions, the Mississauga Arts Council is partnering with other groups to present a number of virtual arts events and workshops for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s a look at some of the events on tap over the coming weeks.
Pay What You Can Workshop Series – Tuesdays at 7 p.m. from Jan. 18 to Feb. 15
Visual Arts Mississauga is staging a series of online art workshops with talented instructors. Participants can use materials commonly found around the home to tap into their creative side and learn something new.
Art Hive – Thursday, Jan. 20, 6 p.m.
Art Gallery of Mississauga presents their first Art Hive, featuring the open studio workspace process for personal growth and community well-being. This event is for participants ages 18+. No experience is required, and those interested can use any materials they have.
Play Date – Thursday, Jan. 20, 7 p.m.
Crane Creations Theatre Company presents Play Date, an online monthly play reading club where you can read or listen to a play, live on Zoom. This month’s read is “Harlem Duet” by Djanet Sears.
Sauga Music NOW: Rhymes and Rhythm – Thursday, Jan. 20, 8:30 p.m.
Mississauga Arts Council and Martys HUB in collaboration with TaketheStage.ca present Sauga Music NOW: Rhymes and Rhythm, featuring the best new music from Mississauga hip hop artists. Hosted by Tremayne, this event will include performances, music videos and artist interviews from Junia-T, SDotGoods, RUNXGUN, Nanna Goodie and Kelson Fredericks.
Free paint session – Saturday, Jan. 29, 11 a.m.
Taking place as part of Arts on the Credit, this event will give participants a short tour of the Winter Wonderland Group Gallery exhibition before member artist Khaula Mazhar leads an easy watercolour session. Register by emailing contact@artsonthecredit.ca.
