I'm a Nigerian-Canadian food explorer, and educator whose debut cookbook, Chop Chop: Cooking the Food of Nigeria is out 18th March, 2025. A geologist by training, I've been researching and documenting cuisine and culture since 2009, focused on food sovereignty, cultural identity, and reclamation of foodways. My research interests explore the roots of Nigerian and West African cuisine and the impact of West African intellectual contributions to global development; in my ongoing exploration #CoasttoCoast, I research human connections and foodways in "all the ways we're similar in spite of our apparent differences" expressed in maps; and with #EattheBooks, the layers of meaning behind tastes and flavors encoded in literature. From writing to photography, film making to audio work, I celebrate the joy of eating and drinking. I am a professor of Food and Tourism Studies at Centennial College and I make my home with my three teenagers in Mississauga, part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
