About the Artist:
Valerie Margaret Barton
My passion for painting started many years ago when I lived in Solihull, England. I joined an art class at the Edgbaston Centre for the Arts in Birmingham and enrolled in Oils 101 …short lived… but the passion stayed. After immigrating to Canada, raising a family working and finally retiring through a friend I discovered watercolours and met a wonderfully talented artist to study with. I seized this opportunity and I was hooked again!
I was fortunate to meet with some like minded friends and through our love of watercolours we formed a group known as “Painting Ladies” a strong bond of friendship has remained between us over the years. We have studied for a number of years with several other Canadian artists. As a collective group we have held several successful art exhibits and various local community functions have featured our works. We also have displayed our work individually.
We meet weekly to paint together and continue to take workshops to keep fresh and up to date. I enjoy variety in my painting subject, landscapes, seascapes, still life, florals, animals, birds also the challenge of commissions and adding acrylics to my palette.
I fell in love with Port Credit in Mississauga and with my husband was delighted to take up residence there.
