VIVA ITALIA: Mississauga Italfest™ hosts first-ever virtual event during Italian Heritage Month!
MISSISSAUGA, ON (June 14, 2021) – Mississauga Italfest™ is Mississauga’s premier Italian festival celebrating Italian Heritage. From 8,000 visitors in 2013 Italfest grew to welcome 30,000 enthusiastic fans in 2019. Recognized as a Top 100 Festival in Ontario, Italfest occurs annually in August at Celebration Square. Visitors can trace their roots from Italy to Mississauga, enjoy art exhibits and historical displays. Watermelon and pasta eating contests have the crowds cheering and rivals across Ontario rush to enter the Soccer Challenge, Bocce Ball and Scopa tournaments for the Mississauga Italfest Championship! Mouth-watering food awaits; pasta, pizza, speducci, gelato, cannoli, and espresso! Celebrity Chefs, artisans, puppet shows, jugglers and stilt-walkers, round out the family fun. Popular comedians and performers open for iconic international headliners direct from Italy.
Although COVID-19 prevented us from hosting a live festival in 2020 and 2021, the importance of social connection and engaging the community continues to be a priority. We are thrilled to present “A Virtual Taste of Mississauga Italfest”, presented by CHIN Radio/TV during Italian Heritage Month on June 26th at 7:00 pm EDT. Relive the exciting moments of Mississauga Italfest™ from the sounds of Taranta, to Bobby Solo, Sandro Giacobbe, and I Cugini di Campagna. Enjoy performances from Italfest favourites: Josephine Mancini, Singer; Frank Spadone, Comedian; and acclaimed Singer and Musician Carlo Coppola. Watch unforgettable highlights of Italfest over the years, and an exceptional tour of our featured region of Calabria hosted by Chef, Luciano Schipano who takes visitors through a journey of regional cuisine and local traditions, all right in the comfort of Italfest’s virtual viewers homes.
